1. Program Overview

The Vietnam Studies program offers students a comprehensive understanding of Vietnam through its distinctive cultural heritage, rich history, and diverse people. As an interdisciplinary field rooted in the humanities and social sciences, the program enables students to explore the nation's cultural identity, historical development, and social values while fostering a deep appreciation for preserving and promoting Vietnam's cultural heritage.

Vietnam's remarkable diversity of landscapes, traditions, and communities has made it one of Asia's most attractive travel destinations. Consequently, studying Vietnam Studies is not only an academic pursuit but also an experiential journey, allowing students to discover the country's natural wonders, historical landmarks, and cultural heritage sites throughout Vietnam.

A distinctive feature of the program is the Vietnamese Language for Foreigners specialization offered by the Faculty of Social Sciences and Humanities, Duy Tan University. Serving as a linguistic and cultural bridge, this specialization helps international learners develop Vietnamese language proficiency while gaining deeper insight into Vietnamese culture, society, and everyday life. It equips students with the language skills and cultural competence necessary for living, studying, and working successfully in Vietnam, a country renowned for its rich cultural heritage spanning more than a thousand years.

2. Curriculum

The Vietnam Studies program is designed as an interdisciplinary curriculum that integrates knowledge from Culture, History, Economics, Politics, and other related fields, providing students with a comprehensive understanding of Vietnam while meeting the growing demands of the tourism and cultural industries.

A distinctive feature of the program is its strong emphasis on experiential learning through field trips, site surveys, and hands-on activities that connect classroom knowledge with real-world practice. Alongside theoretical foundations, students develop professional competencies through courses such as:

  • Ethnic Customs and Beliefs

  • Village Culture and Community-Based Tourism

  • Vietnamese and World Art Heritage

  • Vietnamese Cuisine (Theory and Practice)

  • Restaurant, Hotel, and Tour Guiding Operations

  • Tourism Marketing

Students complete 132 credits (excluding Physical Education, National Defense Education, and extracurricular activities) over a four-year period. In addition, the Honors Vietnam Studies Program provides opportunities to enhance foreign language proficiency, communication skills, and international exchange experiences—particularly with students from ASEAN countries—helping learners broaden their global perspectives.
