Introduction to The Faculty of Japanese

Japan is an Asian country renowned for its advanced science and technology, modern education system, and long-standing cultural and diplomatic ties with Vietnam, which were officially established in 1973. In recent years, the relationship between Vietnam and Japan has continued to grow stronger. With annual investments exceeding USD 4 billion, Japan is one of Vietnam's largest foreign investors. As of the end of 2019, Japan had invested in 4,190 projects in Vietnam with a total registered capital of USD 57.9 billion, ranking second among all countries and territories investing in Vietnam.

Beyond the opportunity to pursue high-paying careers with attractive benefits, Japanese culture, cuisine, tourism, and media—including television, literature, anime, and manga—have inspired a growing number of young people to study the Japanese language.

To meet the increasing demand for Japanese-speaking professionals, the Department of Japanese, under the School of Languages and Social Humanities, Duy Tan University, was established with the mission of providing high-quality Japanese language education and conducting academic research that contributes to the country's socio-economic development, particularly in the Central and Central Highlands regions of Vietnam.

The Department offers three academic concentrations:

Japanese Language and Culture
Japanese Translation and Interpretation
Japanese for Tourism

These programs are designed to develop highly adaptable professionals with a strong command of the Japanese language and the ability to achieve Level 5 proficiency under Vietnam's Six-Level Foreign Language Proficiency Framework. Graduates are equipped with excellent communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, teamwork, and lifelong learning skills. They also gain a broad understanding of Japanese society and culture, as well as the local, national, and international contexts in which Japanese is used as a foreign or international language. The curriculum prepares students for advanced studies and empowers them to become specialists, managers, and future leaders in their respective fields.
