Thanh Ha - Energetic Korean Interpreter in Volunteer Activities

In 2025, the Medics with Vietnam and Peace (MVP) Organization of South Korea launched the 23rd humanitarian medical program, which took place from March 15 to 22, 2025. The program involved a team of medical professionals and volunteers from both South Korea and Vietnam. Nguyen Thi Thanh Ha, a student from K27NHB1, Department of Korean Language, Faculty of Language and Humanities (LHSS), Duy Tan University, was the only representative selected from the university to participate in this program as an interpreter.

The team participating in the program takes a commemorative photo.

From 2000 to 2024, MVP has conducted 22 medical missions in Quang Nam, Quang Ngai, Binh Dinh, and Phu Yen provinces. The program includes dental check-ups and oral health care guidance for elementary and secondary school students, traditional medicine treatments, medical equipment donations, and support for survivors of the war in Vietnam. Over 60 members participated, including about 30 South Korean members (dentists, dental assistants, traditional medicine doctors, and eye examination technicians) and 30 Vietnamese members (dentists, eye doctors, technicians, and volunteer interpreters).

In 2025, for the first time, MVP organized an eye examination and provided prescription glasses to local people in collaboration with the Quang Nam Eye Hospital. Nearly 1,400 people, including students, teachers, and the elderly in Duy Xuyen District, received free medical care. Thanh Ha shared, "This trip gave me many valuable experiences. I had the opportunity to work with experienced doctors from both Korea and Vietnam, as well as outstanding interpreters from universities in Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City. Although the workload was heavy and the working intensity was high, everyone in the group worked with enthusiasm and excellent teamwork. Each person supported each other, sharing the tasks and creating a positive and energetic work environment. This made me feel deeply moved and allowed me to learn a lot, not just about the work itself, but also about how to treat others, the spirit of solidarity, and the love that everyone shared for each other."

In addition to providing medical care, the team also surveyed a project to build temporary houses for three disadvantaged families in Duy Xuyen District. Furthermore, the team engaged in sports activities with teachers and students in Duy Nghia Commune.

The team engages in cultural exchange activities with teachers and students.

With her solid foundation in the Korean language and flexible communication skills, Thanh Ha played a key role in bridging the communication between the South Korean doctors and the Vietnamese patients. During the process, she helped translate medical information, guided patients through the examination process, and assisted the medical team in exchanging professional knowledge. As an interpreter, Thanh Ha not only contributed to the success of the event but also demonstrated the responsibility and professional abilities of a student from the Department of Korean Language, LHSS, Duy Tan University.

It is also known that Thanh Ha participated in an educational exchange program with Doosan Vina in February 2025, in collaboration with students from Chung Ang University, South Korea. Thanh Ha reflected, "The program with Doosan VINA helped me refine my interpretation skills in the fields of education and cultural exchange, while the humanitarian medical program broadened my understanding of medical work and volunteering. Both programs helped me improve my interpreting skills, teamwork, learning, and cultural exchange between the two countries." These experiences will certainly be valuable, helping this second-year student accumulate practical experience and enhance her communication skills in a multicultural environment.
