On May 25, 2024, intense and exciting competitions took place at Hanoi University as 29 contestants from 26 universities across northern and central Vietnam competed in the finals of the 23rd “Chinese Bridge” Competition. Representing the School of Language and Social Sciences at Duy Tan University, student Le Phan Hoai Phuong from Class K27 of the Chinese Department participated and secured the Consolation Prize.

The “Chinese Bridge” Competition is an annual global event organized by the Chinese Ministry of Education. It serves as a platform for students studying Chinese to showcase their language proficiency while fostering cultural exchange and enhancing their knowledge of China’s rich culture, people, and society.

Hosted by the Confucius Institute at Hanoi University in collaboration with the Chinese Embassy in Vietnam, the competition aims to create a valuable environment for students from universities and colleges in northern and central Vietnam to demonstrate their passion and understanding of the Chinese language, culture, and arts. Additionally, the competition provides opportunities for students and educators to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and build connections.

The 23rd “Chinese Bridge” Competition, themed “Under One Roof,” consisted of two rounds. In the Speech Round, contestants presented on assigned topics, answered general knowledge questions, and engaged in impromptu speeches to showcase their problem-solving skills and command of the Chinese language. The second round focused on artistic talents, where contestants performed unique and impressive acts. With confidence and composure, Hoai Phuong displayed exceptional knowledge and stage presence, earning the Consolation Prize.

Reflecting on the experience, Hoai Phuong shared, “I know that many talented students in my school and department were equally deserving, so being selected to compete was a great honor and a bit of luck. During the competition, I received tremendous support from the university and the faculty members of the Chinese Department. Beyond classroom lessons, my teachers taught me essential soft skills, such as public speaking, confidently engaging with others, and applying knowledge to real-life situations. These skills provided me with a solid foundation for this year’s competition."
