LHSS Students Secure Silver and Bronze Medals at the Vietnam Commercial Mediation Competition 2025

The Vietnam Commercial Mediation Competition 2025 (Vietnam Mediation Moot - V-Mediate 2025) is an annual academic competition co-organized by the Vietnam International Commercial Mediation Center (VICMC) and the Vietnam Mediation Center (VMC). The competition aims to promote the dissemination of knowledge and skills regarding commercial dispute resolution through mediation – a method increasingly encouraged in the context of deep international economic integration.

In 2025, the competition attracted 201 teams from 28 universities and law training institutions across the country, demonstrating its strong reach and prestige within the law student community. Overcoming hundreds of talented competing teams, the team from the Faculty of Law, School of Languages and Social Sciences and Humanities (LHSS), Duy Tan University, excellently secured a place in Round 2 - the Practice Round, held at the Court Academy in Hanoi.

In the Practice Round, the 20 competing teams were divided into various groups and successively underwent three intense competition stages. After three sessions in Stage 1 and Stage 2, the Duy Tan University Faculty of Law team was excellently selected to advance to Stage 3, where the matches for the Silver and Gold Medals took place. Through effort, composure, and impressive teamwork, the team harvested a Silver Medal in the "Mediator" category and a Bronze Medal in the "Party in Mediation" category – a proud achievement for the collective students of the Faculty of Law.

The competing team from the LHSS School, Duy Tan University, consisted of 4 members: Duong Thi Hong Ngoc and Ly Thi Men from class K27 LKT HP, and Duong Thi Tuyet Ngan and Tran Thi Xuan Huong from class K29 LKT HP. Before entering the competition round, the contestants participated in 3 in-depth workshops with reputable mediators from VICMC and VMC. This was a valuable opportunity for students to consolidate legal knowledge, familiarize themselves with professional mediation procedures, and hone their skills in handling practical dispute scenarios. The competition was divided into several phases.

  1. Stage 1 - Theoretical Round: Contestants took an online multiple-choice test, assessing specialized knowledge of commercial mediation.
  2. Stage 2 - Practice Round: Contestants took on the roles of mediator, lawyer, and legal representative of the disputing parties, resolving hypothetical legal scenarios drafted by members of VICMC and VMC.
  3. Stage 3 - Medal Finals: The top-performing teams entered the final mediation session, comprehensively demonstrating their legal knowledge, negotiation skills, and ability to conduct a mediation session.

The dispute scenarios in the competition revolved around various practical fields, requiring flexible legal thinking and application skills:

  1. Round 1: Dispute concerning service provision.
  2. Round 2: Dispute concerning mergers and acquisitions (M&A).
  3. Round 3: Dispute related to intellectual property.

Tran Thi Xuan Huong excitedly shared: "Participating in the Commercial Mediation Competition 2025 was an extremely meaningful experience for me. The competition not only helped me understand more deeply the role of mediation in the commercial field but also trained my communication, negotiation, and practical situation-handling skills. This was a precious opportunity for me to learn, gain experience, and mature on the path to becoming a professional legal practitioner, contributing to spreading the spirit of dialogue, cooperation, and respect for the law in business."

Through the competition, Faculty of Law students were not only challenged in their professional capacity but also honed essential skills for a professional lawyer and mediator, such as communication, persuasion, negotiation, situation handling, and teamwork. These valuable experiences will form a foundation helping them become more steadfast on their future legal career paths. Furthermore, the competition also provided opportunities for exchange, learning, and sharing experiences between Duy Tan University students and students from other prestigious universities across the country, such as: Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, Court Academy, National Economics University, Foreign Trade University, Academy of Administration and Public Management, University of Law - Hue University, and many other renowned law training institutions.

The achievements attained at the Vietnam Commercial Mediation Competition 2025 testify to the training quality of the Faculty of Law, LHSS School, Duy Tan University, while simultaneously affirming the capability, competence, and spirit of integration of Duy Tan Law students on the national academic stage.
