On the afternoon of March 1, 2024, the Da Nang City Youth Union, the Da Nang City Student Association, in collaboration with the Da Nang General Science Library and the Companion Book Club, organized the Final Round of the "Student Volunteer Project for Promoting Reading Culture" contest. The project "Book Coffee Booths at Da Nang Beaches" by students Trong Hoai Nhan Nguyen and Thi Yen Vy Le from the K28 Multimedia Communication program at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Social Sciences, Duy Tân University, won the Encouragement Prize.
The "Student Volunteer Project for Promoting Reading Culture" contest aims to create a healthy playground that attracts the interest and affection of student readers in Da Nang city, seeking practical and effective projects and ideas to promote reading culture in the community and implement local initiatives.
When asked about the reason for undertaking this project, Yen Vy explained: "In reality, cafes nowadays mainly serve coffee and provide spaces for relaxation, studying, and working. The book coffee booth is a model suitable for young people who love books, and we hope to encourage the reading habit to spread more widely. Through collaboration with cafes, the 'Book Coffee Booths at Da Nang Beaches' project not only encourages the revival of a reading culture that is gradually being lost but also brings economic potential to the local community."
It is known that Hoai Nhan and Yen Vy are active members of the Journalism & Communication Club at DTU (JC Chance). Hoai Nhan shared: "We are very happy to participate in this interesting competition. Reaching the final round and winning the Encouragement Prize is a great honor for us. Through this contest, I have learned a lot of valuable lessons."
Inspired by the cute phone booths combined with the concept of a book café, the project "Book Coffee Booths at Da Nang Beaches" aims to create a place for people to visit and relax weekly. The book coffee booths at the beaches will be spaces that connect the senses, helping to heal the soul and spark imagination. The book coffee booths at Da Nang beaches promise to be a new trend—a modern space that helps develop and spread reading culture within the community.
The preliminary round of the contest was held from January 20, 2024, to February 25, 2024, with 23 projects participating, and voting via the Fanpage of the Da Nang City Student Association. After the evaluation by the judging panel, 12 excellent projects were selected to participate in the Final Round. In the final round, each project presented and pitched their idea in front of the panel for a maximum of 5 minutes. The results were: 1 First Prize, 2 Second Prizes, 3 Third Prizes, and 6 Encouragement Prizes.
